Mother’s Day: More to Mum than being Mum?

Reflections around Mother’s Day always get me thinking.

In addition to your Mum being your Mum, she may also be your rock – your constant.

Do you call her after good & bad days & dates or simply call to fill her in about how your week is going?

Is your Mum the one that’s not afraid to be brutally honest with you — even when you don’t want to hear it — and never fails to give awesome advice?

When I was researching what others say about Mums and motherhood, it struck me how many of the most powerful references are from unknown sources.

Partly because I know there will be many a mum who would put their name to them – including me!

One of my favourites.

Ever felt like that?

Enjoy this Mothers Day Gallery as a collection of moments.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mums & those who take on the role of mum – sisters, aunties, cousins, girlfriends – you can also be mums we choose.

Ladies – you all rock!

Becoming a Mum

As my own Mum walked into the Neo-natal ward to welcome her 20th grandchild (our firstborn) my hormones were running wild, yet my heart was bursting.

We were unable to cradle Joshua.

He was in an incubator, jaundiced and connected to a zillion tubes having arrived 6 weeks prematurely.

Mum simply hugged us, celebrated us as new parents then turned to watch our little creation. Mum cradled her arms, rocked forwards & backwards as if she was holding him and hummed a lullaby.

An automatic response for a mum of multiple babes.

Mother’s Day PEA ‘Pod’ – Mum 11 times over

I recall feeling so present and thinking.  If Jj pulls through I can do this. It hit me like a bolt.

This incredible woman had done this 11 times – me and my 10 siblings.

Mum was the Pod for her 11 Peas. Those Peas created 21 Petit-Pois and the generations keep growing – we now celebrate 12 Sweet Peas as the family grows.

Every babe that she bought into the world was known to her as a gift.

Music, Faith and Family
for Mother’s Day

Music, Faith and Family for Mother’s Day

Mum was a lady of immense creativity, intellect & resourcefulness.  Music was her expression.

A beautifully imperfect woman who appeared to have the patience of a saint.
Her curious mind, which stayed away from judgment, enabled her to navigate her storms and live with grace.
Mum will always be remembered for her Music, Faith and Family.

It’s 15 years since Mum passed to the room next door, yet I feel her wisdom & presence every day. I am grateful for the gift of being a Mum.
Fulfilling yet it’s been my most challenging role too.

Many words will honour Mums.
For all, they represent.
The reality and the raw of what it is to be an imperfect human doing their best.

Spoil yourself for Mother’s Day

Self Care is a vital part of being a Mum.

See our BLOG  Why SELF CARE is important – it’s more than just a bubble bath!

I know that being Mum sure has bought out the best and the worst in me.
The all and the ‘everythings’.

I am grateful each day for my 2 sons and how they have been 2 of my inspiring teachers in my evolution and growth.
